Considering that many “poor” (tm) people live in rural, hot southern places, I find it absolutely appalling that only 78% have air conditioning. Have these assholes ever gone a day in their lives without air conditioning? Where I live, elderly people who live on assistance die every year because they can’t afford an air conditioner, and they literally roast to death in their homes.
Also, I don’t really understand the whole coffee maker thing. Like, is that supposed to be a luxury item? We got a coffee maker recently for $6. Huns, poor people get groggy and tired in the morning too. I mean shit, I was homeless and we still had a coffee maker packed up in our car after we were evicted from our apartment. Does that mean I wasn’t poor anymore? Sorry that paying $6 for a coffee maker and $5 every couple of weeks for some coffee is considered a luxury these days, when you consider those reporters are drinking Starbucks coffee with classy creamers and calorie-free sweeteners.
I don’t know why I’m even trying. Using reasoning and logic when talking about Fox news is a joke in and of itself.
Also, how many people use their air conditioning all the time? In all of the (poor) households I live in we have to limit our air usage so as to keep the bill affordable. A lot of times things like Refrigerators and Coffee Makers my family always passed down. We had the same refrigerator since before I was BORN, then my family was able to get a new refrigerator (me at the age of 21) when a relative died.
^^ This. Plus, you have to remember that most apartments, even the cheapest ones, come with a refrigerator. And in those really crappy, cheap places, your fridge might break and then the management might take forever in getting around to fixing it, leaving basic staples such as milk, eggs, lettuce, cheese, etc. to rot. And then you’re even more poor because you’re having to eat out or get really creative with your non-perishables while you wait. Yeah, that’s happened before (thankfully not to me). But Fox news is just a giant entity of idiocy anyway.
EDIT: Also, apartments also usually come with air conditioning. Same goes for rental houses.

…are on their way. I’ve been way too tired/busy to stop and post. I’m at La Guardia airport now, about to go back to Texas. Either tonight or tomorrow I’ll sit down and recap the AMAZING weekend I’ve had.

I’m just as exhausted tonight as I was last night. So. This will also not be a long entry. (I’m beginning to suspect there will be no such thing this whole time.)
We got up early and went to the historic Beacon Theatre for my lovely sister’s graduation from NYU Wagner. She got her Master’s in Public Administration. Very cool.
Then we went to this random little place in Chinatown and had dumplings and duck sandwiches for lunch. It was quite tasty.
We walked around Brooklyn for a bit. We went to a candy shop called Economy Candy that was JAM PACKED with candy, and the book store for the Tenement Museum, where I bought a book of poems about New York and a few cool postcards.
Then we went to a reception for my sister’s graduation at NYU Wagner, and then went to a bar a few doors down with ridiculously expensive drinks and got a bit drunk.
We rounded out the night with some standup comedy with The Upright Citizen’s Brigade. It was freaking hilarious, but the COOLEST part was when Janeane Garofolo unexpectedly took the stage. Mind you, it was an intimate little space that seated only about fifty people or so, and we were on the third row. It got even COOLER when we were walking out, and there she was! My family and I all got to tell her we were big fans. She was super nice.
The we ate some pizza and caught a cab “home.”
I <3 NY.

Not going to be a long post. Too tired.
BUT - I have to say, walking around Brooklyn is freakin’ rad. The brownstones are gorgeous, and the apartment my parents are staying in is soooo cute, as is my sister’s apartment a few blocks away. And there’s all these shops and cafes and apartments and people all crammed together. I LOVE it.
I do wish Travis was here to see it all. He’d love it, too.
We also took the subway to Manhattan and walked back to Brooklyn across the Brooklyn Bridge. The view of Manhattan behind us was breathtaking, but I hate heights, so… :-S
Tomorrow my sister receives her Master’s degree from NYU. We have to get up early for the graduation ceremony. Bleh. So I’ve got to get to bed.
But can I just say that I wish I had time to wander off by myself to a cafe nearby and do a little writing? The inspiration here is magnificent. Alas, we have so much to do, and so little time to do it in. We’re only here till Sunday evening. :-/
